I spent about 20 hours over the weekend working on design mode for
StoreSuite. Design mode allows you to change the layout of your shop by
dragging and dropping panels where you want them to appear. As soon as you rearrange a panel the changes are persisted in real-time using Ajax. You don't need to know HTML and it allows you to rearrange your shop in just a few seconds.
This is feature #1 on the list of 10 or so things I will be implementing into StoreSuite that I'm hoping to blow you away with. When I said we're going to make StoreSuite the best, easiest to use and most feature-packed eCommerce solution available, I wasn't lying.
To enable design mode you simply tick a checkbox "Enable Design Mode" in the StoreSuite control panel. You then view your shop logged in as admin and you can rearrange it as you like. Every single page can be configured to your exact liking.

It's hard to explain without the video, so watch the video and let me know what you think :)
In the screenshot and video you'll notice the yellow areas that appear when I start dragging a panel. These are the areas where it can be dropped. If you drop it anywhere else then nothing will happen. Nearly all panels can be moved, and it's easy to add your own panels into the mix using the built-in template editor.
Design mode is compatible (and has been tested) with all major browsers including IE 6 and 7, FireFox and Safari. As far as I know, no other eCommerce solution includes this feature, and I'm hoping it will make your template customization experience a lot easier.

One word: Awsome!
Exactly what will make the product stand out!
If the shop will contain regular pages as well that can be modified like this, it will be great. Something I think I might be missing is the possibility to include or exclude some content blocks from the templates.
[From Mitch: Hi Richard. I'm actually working on that today, so stay tuned :) ]

I agree with matt. I haven't seen this feature implemented in any other ecommerce solution before.

Hiya,
things are looking great...
this is not the place for this question i know, but I'm waiting patiently to set up new webstore,
thinking I may just use a cheapscript until your store is ready...
my main question/feature Im looking for that I havent seen listed is an inbuilt affiliate program for selling products...
if this has not been planned its probably too late, will there be an add on module maybe, or the ability to interface with another affiliate management program like affiliatepro...just wondering?
cheers
stuart
[From Mitch: Hi Stu - thanks for the comment. Affiliate integration is planned for StoreSuite NX 2, and not the first release.]

Nice yeah this feature is very nice, first time I saw it on the google personal page I was amazed.
By using these methods you and all the other coders can create web applications that can be used by regular user that do not have that coding going on.
Which will mean that you target audience and potential buyer amount will increase.

I.
This will be my first time building a website to sell items. I am finding this info to be very easy to use in what I am attempting to do.
Keep up the good work. It is appreciated.

While you are on the subject of Design Mode . . .will StoreSuite allow admin to MODIFY the layout of invoices generated? Our financial officer gets crazed when an invoice is printed out and there is so much extraneous information that the invoice spills over to 2-3 pages when it may not have to. Makes accounting and filing cumbersome!
[From Mitch: Hi Cindy. The invoice template is simply a plain HTML file that integrates into our template system so it's very easy to modify. You can even change the look of it completely]

Will this cart be Google checkout enabled?
If so,this will be excellent.
[From Mitch: Hi Brian. No, StoreSuite wont include Google Checkout in the first release for several reasons, mainly that Google checkout "hijacks" the entire checkout process and requires massive integration into the StoreSuite control panel with their API. We will be looking to add it in a future release.]
